a brittle anvil breaks the rays
which fall upon its little prison,
and scattered in a thousand ways,
the sun is shattered on its prism.

by footsteps now solidified,
of a god long since departed,
the water is desertified;
by its own constraint converted.

A return to the Stones&Gems series, huzzah!

Opal is actually a gel (albeit it pretty thick one har har), containing a considerable amount of water, trapped in a silicate matrix. Opals, when not worn or stored incorrectly, loses a significant amount of this interstitial water and becomes lackluster and brittle.

The aboriginals of Australia have a myth in which the creator descended to the earth on rainbow, bearing a message of peace. Where his feet trod the ground, they imprinted some of the rainbow's essence into the soil, which is how opals came to be.

Simple slow rhythm, as should be. The farther you get out there, the more frigid the temp and the slower the pace. I like it. Brittle anvil, broken shards and all, it's past might orbiting around it like some sort of photographs from before.

Could it be you've got a planet on your mind, rather than a mineral here? It's just that the things you're referring to (orbiting, cold, slowness) seem to apply more closely to planets, while opal is...well...ah whatever. ;)

you know what....you're right LOL!!! I was so used to hearing your theme of planets, that I transformed the title in my mind to Uranus!

My apologies.

Goodgood
Nice picture you draw here. Good rhytm. But I would have liked to hear more in the poem, like another 4 lines worth. Anyway, well done again.

Comment and I shall answer.

Making it longer made it too...verbose. Too "look at me explaining all kinds of nifty stuff".

Waaay too heavy handed.

But then again, my love for nuclear poetry may be misleading me.
